My choice: antifascism! Queer antifascist activism in Ex-Yugoslavia
Pride Prides – one important visible part of LGBT*I*Q (LesbianGayBiTrans*Inter*Queer) activism are in Ex-Yugoslavia are highly controversial events. It took nearly a decade, after the violently blocked attempt in 2001, that a Pride took place in the streets of Belgrade – largely shielded off by police from the massive violent protests around it. Even though annual marches take place in Ljubljana or Zagreb since 2001 and 2002, they are still confronted with counter protests and open homophobia.
Apart from prides, any kind of public LGBT*I*Q event often facehomophobic and/or fascist reactions from organized fascist groups, hooligans, war veterans, church institutions or politicians. And they can all rely on the support of a society, which considers homosexuality predominately as an illness.
In this context, groups evolved over the last years, who understand Queer as a common interconnected struggle against all kind of normalization, exclusion and suppression. Their politics can neither be limited to identity politics, antifascism or feminism.

Info and Film
In order to prepare the discussion around queer activism, we will look at the history and current developments of feminist and LSBT*IQ movement in the region.In the first part there will be a historical overview of the groups and their political issues: What are the common and different goals within the region and internationally? Which strategies were and are applied?The second part is dedicated to current developments. A contemporary film, telling a story around Belgrade Pride, was a blockbuster not only in Ex-Yugoslavia. Also in Germany it attracted enormous interest. We want to watch and discuss the film together: What does this film and the presented content mean for the current LSBT*I*Q movement in former Yugoslavia?How was the film received by the movement? What kind of images are created?

The event will be held in German. If needed, there will be individualtranslation to English. The film will be screened in original version (naški) with German subtitles.

Discussion with Activists
We have invited queer antifascist activists from Belgrade Pride 2009 and Zagreb Pride to Berlin to learn more about their current situations, political struggles in the region and how they connect the different topics in praxis.
The event will be held in English. If needed, there will be individual translation to German.
